RPTU appoints Dr. Philipp Pirro as Professor in Department of Physics

The RPTU University in Kaiserslautern has appointed OPTIMAS member Dr. Philipp Pirro as Professor of Experimental Physics in the Department of Physics. With this appointment, the university is strengthening its scientific expertise in research and teaching, whilst at the same time signalling its commitment to the further development of the department.

Dr. Pirro has a proven academic track record and has earned an excellent reputation through numerous research projects as well as national and international collaborations. His academic work focuses particularly on magnonics, spintronics and magnetism.

As professor, Dr. Philipp Pirro will play a key part in shaping future research and the academic education of students. In addition to supervising Bachelor's, Master's and PhD theses, his focus will be on developing innovative teaching concepts and expanding interdisciplinary research projects.

The Department of Physics at RPTU is one of the leading institutions in its field and is characterised by a close integration of basic as well as applied research and international collaboration. With the appointment of Dr. Pirro, the university is underlining its commitment to promoting scientific excellence and further strengthening its position in the national and international research landscape.

The official appointment became effective on 26 June 2026.
