Application of Microscopy to Polymers

Course Description:

It is widely accepted that microscopy is crucial in research. The focus of this course is designed to introduce you to understand the importance of microscopy in the field of polymer research. The first part of this course will be fundamentals of microscopy and an introduction to polymer morphology. You will gain an understanding of some applications of microscopy to polymers. You will understand how to apply an optical microscopy to study the polymer morphology, for instance, spherulitic structure, process-structure consideration and fillers and agglomeration of particles within a polymer matrix. You will be aware of how the optical microscopy can be applied to study the crystallization behavior of polymers as well as mechanical testing. This course will introduce you to know how to prepare specimens for each application as mentioned.
