OPTIMAS member appointed to advisory board of ministerial high-tech cluster
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alois K. Schlarb, Professor of Composite Engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern (Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering and State Research Center Optimas), was appointed to the advisory board of the high-tech cluster MAICarbon. The cluster operates in the region of Munich-Augsburg-Ingolstadt (MAI) in the technological field of "carbon fiber reinforced materials”. The cluster currently comprises approximately 80 companies, educational and research institutions and supporting organizations, including the founding partners Audi, BMW, Premium Aerotec, Airbus Helicopters, Voith Composites, the SGL Group and the regional Chamber of Commerce, the TU Munich and the association Carbon Composites e. V. User industries in the technological field of "carbon fiber reinforced materials” are companies in automotive and aerospace, as well as in machine and plant construction..
MAICarbon is one of five top clusters funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the framework of the high-tech strategy until 2017. The clusters will obtain up to 40 million euros each in financial support by the BMBF over a total of five years.
The board to which the Kaiserslautern engineer was now appointed will accompany the high-tech cluster during the second funding period until 2017. It consists of two scientists, two industry representatives and one representative of the cluster management.
